Remote Support FAQs

Q: What is Remote Support?
Remote Support is a way that our technicians can reach out and touch your PC - no matter where it is, anywhere in the world! - and perform most repairs, software installations, and even training via the Internet.

Q: How does Remote Support work?
We've kept it really simple. Just download this file (right click -> Save Target As or Save Link As, then save to your desktop). Then just double-click the file to launch the remote session. You'll connect to the Canfield Computers server and the technician will see your desktop and share control of it with you. You are able to watch and follow along as we make changes.

Q: Can Canfield Computers remotely administer my company's computers?
Yes. We can use our remote application or several other business-grade technologies to access and administer your corporate assets.

Q: What kinds of tasks can the technician accomplish remotely?
Many tasks that require sitting at the PC can now be done remotely, including:

  • Spyware and virus removal
  • File transfers and backups
  • Software installation, configuration, and repair
  • Install and configure a firewall
  • Apply security updates to Windows
  • System maintenance
  • ... and much more

Q: Is it safe to allow someone else to control my computer?
It's absolutely safe. Here's why: You initiate the connection to us from your computer, not the other way around. Yes, we will control your PC while we are connected, but you retain control of that connection, and can terminate the connection at any time. Also, you control if and when you want to make the connection. Another point - our system allows you to connect ONLY to our server. There is no way you can accidently connect to another computer, even if you try!

Q: Do I have to be present at my computer while the technician is working on it?
You must launch the application on your desktop to connect to us (that's why this method is secure - we can't connect until you want us to). Once the connection is made, you can leave your PC in the capable (remote) hands of Canfield Computers and go about your business. You can cook dinner, cut the grass, or go to your kids' soccer practice while we work on your PC remotely. Or you can stay and watch if you'd like - the choice is yours!

Q: Sounds too good to be true. How can it work?
It's magic. Well to you it may seem like magic but we're Your Technology Experts and we fully understand how it works. If you'd like all the gory details just ask!
You should note that hardware repairs and some other types of repairs can't be done remotely. In those cases where a technician has to repair or replace hardware we'll schedule a service call.
